&lt;p&gt;1) I’m at the Olympic gym, using bumper plates and no safeties, so I just drop the weight off my back. That’s safe, as long as you are in the right environment and people know to give you space. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;2) I’m at my gym, lifting with a spotter (obviously, in that case, he just helps me up when I can’t get up). Same goes for competitions. They have three spotters and three judges on the platform so it doesn’t really matter if you fail. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;3) I’m at my gym, lifting by myself. And then I just squat back down until the bar reaches the safeties. &lt;/p&gt;
